The underrepresentation of women in finance, particularly in leadership positions, remains a persistent issue.

This working group will focus on gathering and analysing accurate and comprehensive data on gender disparities in the Luxembourg financial sector. This is crucial for informing the development of remedial initiatives and policies at both company and government levels.

Good data is essential for diagnosing the extent of the gender gap in the financial sector. It helps identify key areas of underrepresentation, such as:

  • The scarcity of women in leadership roles

  • Gender pay gaps

  • Barriers to career advancement

The members of this working group will build on the Luxembourg Women in Finance Charter (WiF Charter), exploring the need for additional indicators to provide a more comprehensive view, given the Charter’s voluntary basis.

By establishing baseline metrics and regularly collecting data, companies and governments can track changes in the representation of women in finance, assess the impact of implemented policies, and adjust strategies as needed.

About the Luxembourg Women in Finance Charter (WiF Charter)

The WiF Charter serves as a key starting point in this effort. Launched in March 2023, it was developed by:

The initiative operates under the patronage of the Luxembourg Ministry of Finance, with the Luxembourg Sustainable Finance Initiative (LSFI) acting as the coordinating entity and data collection partner.

The LSFI, in collaboration with the Steering Committee comprising the WiF Charter’s founding members oversees the reporting process. A report will be released annuals to report on the progress of WiF Charter’s signatories. The reports can be found below.

The Luxembourg WiF Charter’s main goal is to enhance gender balance and inclusion within financial institutions, with a particular focus on increasing representation in the three most senior positions:

  • Board of directors;

  • Executive committee/C-Suite;

  • Senior management.

Commitments of the WiF Charter Signatories

Signatories of the Charter commit to:

  • Promoting the progression of women at all levels, including senior and board levels;

  • Appointing an Accountable Executive (AE) responsible for gender diversity and inclusion;

  • Setting internal targets and action plans integrated into the firm’s goals;

  • Supporting transparency by publicly reporting on progress annually on their website;

An annual data collection campaign is conducted among signatories to track women's representation at different seniority levels, as well as progress on targets and actions implemented to promote gender balance. This feeds into the annual Luxembourg WiF Charter Report, which also outlines best practice exchanges among signatories.
